Level 3 Character Application

Being an angel in Cheriour's world means that you're part of a system. Every angel, minor or major, has their part to play, like clockwork parts in a timepiece. They all must work together towards the whole, and if one is killed or taken out of the equation due to the influence of demons and outside forces, then another angel must step up and take his place.

Cheriour has been incredibly used to this way of living for well over four thousand years. He's relied completely on his fellow angels in times of great need just as much as they have relied on him. It was due to their help that Cheriour was able to pull back from the slow descent into madness that he had started on when he took the duty that God gave him.

And then suddenly, in Asgard, he's been taken from the system he's been so used to and put into one which is strange and new and alien to him.

There are usually only two choices that one can take when you're in this situation. Either you change the system around you to fit your needs, or you change to fit in the system around you.

Considering the latter option is easier to undertake, Cheriour began going down a road of development he never expected to go through.

Having not talked to actual human beings for centuries, actually being able to hold conversations with them was quite the exciting thing. He began learning new concepts he never even considered before that had been worthless to him as an angel but incredibly important to human beings- concepts like romance, society, and general activities that he had never had the time to do when he was back home.

But even with all these people and things around to discuss and study, Cheriour's heart longed to be with his family again. There was no replacement for angels like his friend Pendroz, who had been his shoulder to lean on when the going went tough. And Cheriour wasn't exactly a very stable person when he was on his own- all the issues and guilt he had would slowly start to crack through if he didn't allow himself to gather the help of the people around him. However, that changed when he met Castiel ([personal profile] ofthursday) and eventually found out that he was an angel from another world. To Cheriour, it didn't matter what type of angel he was- finally there was someone who shared something in common with him, and from that point on, he stuck with the other angel, getting the familial support he was missing so readily. Cheriour started opening up to other people as well, and amassed a good amount of friends who he genuinely cared for and looked after wherever he could.

However, Cheriour's time in Asgard has not always been a happy one. For despite his love of humanity and heightened excitement about the new situation he found himself into, he knew that he could never put aside the job that God had given him. The job in which he hunted down those whose hearts were darkest and kill them so that innocents might live. And Cheriour soon encountered his first person of interest in the pretty vampire known as Diva. ([personal profile] madamemoiselle) She came out and blatantly told him that she feasted on people, and from that point on, he was watching her like a hawk. He had never met a vampire before, and he was curious by what hints she dropped about her past life, so for a while he let her be. But then she went after a young man and almost killed him, and Cheriour, hating seeing innocent people get hurt, went after her and killed her.

Usually, after something like this would occur back home, Cheriour would move onto the next suspicious person- that was that. But in Asgard, nothing really works as it should, and Cheriour was flabbergasted to find that Diva was alive and well not long after he had done the deed. This had never happened before in the angel's experience. Dead was dead. But she was his first failure, and therefore the first crack in his usually calm composure.

From that point on, the two began a power struggle of sorts. Knowing that he couldn't kill Diva the way he usually could, he tried to find ways to get around that. And oh, did that spark an obsession in him. After he died due to the gods giving back his power and Diva recorded it for the whole city to see, he was so enraged that he began considering options which he would have balked at before. Options like torture and hurting the ones Diva loved. This was no longer a simple duty to perform for God- this was personal now, and the more Diva poked and prodded and revealed more of the burning flaws inside of him, the more he reacted with violence and bitter anger.

Cheriour, despite what he believes, is a very flawed being. He is considered a monster where he comes from among the humans of the world, and even though he has very good intentions in his heart, the hidden guilt over how many people he has killed has made him do very reckless things. And the sad thing is, he's so determined to help others and be the best he can be that he doesn't realize how far he's fallen to levels he would have never considered before he came here. Overall, although he has still kept his cheery attitude and love for people intact, he's slowly going down a long road that is changing him more into the monster people see him to be back home.

Only time will tell if he'll be able to pull out of it before it's too late.
